On June 23rd through 26th, 2023, a team, comprised of Pam, Sasha, and our dedicated translator Sergiy, embarked on a journey to Nizhyn, a vibrant city 72 miles northeast of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv. Our task was to host a mini conference in this historic city, which, prior to the devastating invasion on February 24, 2022, boasted a diverse population of 66,000 inhabitants.

The conference revolved around a vital collection of topics, all deeply related to the concept of trauma and its widespread implications. We explored aspects of trauma communication, delved into the connection between the brain and trauma, and offered insights into first aid techniques. Notably, we dedicated significant attention to the sensitive topic of grief and loss, hoping to provide comfort and coping strategies to those in need.

We were profoundly moved by the enthusiastic reception from our attendees. Their gratitude for the conference’s teachings was palpable, reinforcing our commitment to continue these vital discussions. The enriching interaction extended into the weekend, as we had the opportunity to spend quality time with the city’s youth on Sunday evening.

The following day, our team had the humbling experience of visiting five of Nizhyn’s 20,000 pensioners, reinforcing our dedication to supporting and caring for these individuals. We’re continuously reminded of the urgency and necessity of our mission: to serve as stewards of compassion and care for those who yearn for a seat at His Table in Nizhyn.

Here are some snapshots from our journey:

  • Sasha in action: Witness Sasha as he brilliantly articulates the theory of trauma communication, facilitating an interactive session that encouraged members of the audience to practice their newly acquired skills.
  • An honor for The Family Table Ukraine: Witness the moment when our organization received a token of recognition from the “National Veterans Organization.” This certificate of thanks is a testament to our efforts in assisting the homebound citizens of Nizhyn with medications, food, and other humanitarian aid.
  • Pam’s life-changing teachings: Be inspired as Pam shares her wisdom, drawing from her favorite lessons in life. She uses principles from ‘Establishing God’s Peace,’ a transformative study written by our dear friends, Beth Warlick and Verna Mccrillis, whose teachings have profoundly shaped her life (click here to learn more).

Our journey to Nizhyn underlines our relentless commitment to improving lives, spreading knowledge, and fostering a sense of community. Together, we forge ahead, seeking mercy, grace, and continued strength as we serve those who are desperate to find solace and comfort at His Table.
